Woman Killed, 4 Hurt As Crash Shuts Down Part Of Route 3 In Pembroke
PEMBROKE (CBS) - A woman was killed and four people were hurt in a crash that shut down part of Route 3 in Pembroke Sunday morning.
Four vehicles crashed on the northbound side of the highway, just before Exit 12, around 9:30 a.m.
According to Massachusetts State Police, an 87-year-old woman from Quincy, later identified as Nancy Chamberlin, was a passenger in one of the cars and she died.
"Troopers performed life-saving efforts, including CPR, prior to her transport to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries," police said in a statement Sunday afternoon.
Four other people were taken to hospitals, but none of them had life-threatening injuries, according to police.
The northbound side of Route 3 was closed for more than two hours and traffic was backed up for miles after the crash.
There's no word yet on what caused the pile up, but police said a pothole near the scene was "completely separate and unrelated to this crash."
No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
