Route 24 Highway Work Expected To Run 3 Years
STATE HOUSE, BOSTON, AUG. 24, 2020 (State House News Service) - Drivers south of Boston are getting a highway upgrade, but it could mean slow going on Rte 24 during overnight periods.
Department of Transportation overseers signed off Monday on a $15 million contract to repair about 12 miles of Route 24 between Raynham and Brockton and to rehabilitate six bridge decks, a project that will shut down some travel lanes overnight.
The MassDOT Board of Directors approved a $15.3 million contract with Aggregate Industries of NE Region, Inc., tapping the company to handle the resurfacing and maintenance project.
Most on and off ramps between the two communities will be rehabbed, except for the interchange between Route 24 and Interstate 495, according to MassDOT. Aggregate Industries will also be tasked with upgrading drainage where necessary, resetting curbs, installing reflective pavement markers and other road maintenance steps.
The project's construction should run about three years, with almost all of the work set to take place between 9 p.m. and 5 p.m. MassDOT says it expects work crews will keep one lane of traffic open in either direction while the work is happening.
