Route 128 Traffic Jam Caused By DOT Mistake
BOSTON (CBS) – So what caused an eight-mile backup on Route 128 north of Boston Wednesday morning?

The Department of Transportation said it was a mistake and you can blame them.
Someone closed the left travel lane on the southbound side of the highway for work crews - even though no work was being done.
That brought a flood of complaints from drivers.
"We had no work scheduled on the left lane on that stretch of 128 today. That's where the mishap came in," Mass DOT spokesman Mike Verseckes told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.
"The crew may have been deployed erroneously or without properly coordinating schedules."
"We try not to be an obstruction to traffic flowing through, so we'll figure out where things went wrong and figure out how to fix it."
