Men Held On High Bail After Roslindale Shootout With Boston Police
BOSTON (CBS) – Two men were ordered held on high bail a day after a Roslindale shootout with Boston Police officers.
Luis Colon and Eric Rosado-Gonzalez appeared in court on Wednesday on charges related to an incident with undercover officers who were conducting a weapons investigation Tuesday on Newburg Street.
Prosecutors say an undercover officer had previously purchased heroin from Rosado-Gonzalez and on September 28 he agreed to sell a pistol to the officer.
On Tuesday, Rosado-Gonzalez allegedly told the undercover officers he had a machine gun and two handguns that he would sell them for $1,800.
Police say Colon asked the undercover officer to come inside a Newburg Street home to complete the deal, but he refused.
Rosado-Gonzalez then allegedly got into the officer's undercover car, pulled a gun out and put it to his head. The officer pushed Rosado-Gonzalez out of the car and escaped.
Colon is accused of shooting multiple times at the officers from a nearby porch following a struggle. Neither undercover officer was hit.
Police returned fire, but the bullets did not hit either suspect.
Colon was arrested, and after a search that lasted for several hours, Rosado-Gonzalez was taken into custody as well.
Prosecutors said Wednesday that once at Boston Police headquarters, Rosado-Gonzalez admitted the men had set up the officers for a robbery.
The defense argued in court that there was "no indication" that any firearm was recovered from the scene of the shootout.
Geno Johnston's 11-year-old son was home alone when the gunfire broke out. Fortunately he was uninjured.
"He knew what to do. He got himself to the basement," said Johnston. "Pat wasn't picking up the phone. So there were 30 minutes there that were very tense."
Bail was set at $500,000 for each man and their bail was revoked out of other district courts on unrelated charges.
Colon and Rosado-Gonzalez are next expected to appear in court on October 28.
