Rondo's Performance A First For Veteran Teammate KG

BOSTON (CBS) -- Since joining the NBA straight out of high school in 1995, Kevin Garnett has seen a lot over the course of his 1,228 games and roughly 45,000 minutes on the floor.

But he's never seen anything like he did on Sunday afternoon.

Against the Knicks, Garnett watched Rajon Rondo dole out 20 assists, score 18 points and bring down 17 rebounds. It was a performance for the ages, and it was one even Garnett can't recall seeing before.

"Rondo's [stat] line is one that I haven't seen since I've been in the league," Garnett said. "Very, very impressive. I had to come in here [to the locker room] and give him some real dap after that."

The Elias Sports Bureau said that Rondo became the first player to record a triple-double with at least 17 in each category since Magic Johnson in 1989, while the last player to top Rondo in all three categories was Wilt Chamberlain in 1968.

Despite the outstanding performance, Rondo's coach said he didn't even realize the stats were piling up.

"I didn't even know it until honestly, they gave me the stat sheet," Doc Rivers said. "I kind of glanced over the bottom numbers ... I happened to glance down, and I had no idea. I didn't know he had 20 assists."
