Ron Paul & Rudy Giuliani, Two Republicans With Differing Views On Foreign Policy
EXETER, N.H. (CBS) -- Congressman Ron Paul and Mayor Rudy Giuliani, both in New Hampshire Friday, highlighted two very different views on foreign policy in the Republican Party.
After kicking off his presidential campaign in Exeter, Dr. Paul took questions to clarify his recent statements on the killing of Osama bin Laden.
"I think it could have been done differently," he said. He believes that the United States should have worked with Pakistan before launching the raid. "I don't think there is anything wrong recognizing that when going into a sovereign nation, you talk to them."
WBZ-TV's Karen Anderson reports.
"That seems like it would be a really silly think to do," said Mayor Rudy Giuliani. "Ron Paul's position on national defense and foreign policy is basically wrong. He's an isolationist… We don't have the choice to be an isolationist. We're a part of the world; our economy is dependent on the rest of the world. We have got to work with the rest of the world, and we've got to be effective and be a leader in the world. Ron Paul would take us back to the 18th century."
Paul says the war on terror has brought more harm than good. "I just don't see the reason we need to flaunt out power like that."
What does Giuliani think about their differing views? "It shows we're a broad open minded party, but there were times I'd stand on the stage with Ron Paul and scratch my head and wonder if he is part of the same planet."
