Roger Moore, Actor Who Played James Bond, Dies At 89

LONDON (CBS) -- Roger Moore, the actor who played James Bond, has died. He was 89.

His family confirmed the news Tuesday morning, saying that he died in Switzerland after a battle with cancer.

"We know our own love and admiration will be magnified many times over, across the world, by people who knew him for his films, his television shows and his passionate work for UNICEF which he considered to be his greatest achievement," the family said.

Moore portrayed the British 007 agent in films throughout the 1970s and 80s, including "The Man With The Golden Gun," and "The Spy Who Loved Me."

Moore began his work for UNICEF in 1991 as a Goodwill Ambassador. He was knighted in 2003 for helping to raise millions to eliminate iodine efficiency in children, according to CBS News.
