Roche: World Series Shows What Is Good In Baseball
BOSTON (CBS) - I know it's been a horrible two months around New England when it comes to baseball. It's been a never-ending soap opera, plus we saw the greatest collapse in MLB history.
In fact, I had a conversation with a member of the 2011 Red Sox recently and all he could say was that he had an empty feeling that won't go away any time soon.
However, if you're a baseball fan and watched Game Six of the World Series Thursday night, you had a reminder of what is good about the MLB game.
The St Louis Cardinals evened the World Series at 3-3 with a dramatic 10-9, 11 inning win over the Texas Rangers.

We all remember Game Six of the 1975 World Series when Carlton Fisk waved his magic. That is the benchmark and this one came close.
The Cardinals rallied from two-run deficits in the 9th and 10th innings and in each instance they were down to their final strike. Amazing! Twice they were one pitch away from losing the World Series, but they survived.
Big hit after big hit on both sides. A combined 15 pitchers were used. Stars(Nelson Cruz, Matt Holliday) dealing with injuries. Good defense and some not so good defense. Questionable managerial decisions. You name it and this one had it.
And, it ended on a "no doubt about it" blast of a walk-off home run by David Freese. A bomb to deep center field. Crushed by a kid who quit baseball after his senior year of high school because he was burnt out.

And, the game ended with the Cards ripping apart the hero's uniform jersey after he stepped on home plate A's his teammates acted like little kids.
"Acting like little kids" on the field - not off - like we heard about here in Boston.
If you are still angry about the 2011 Boston Red Sox season, let it go. Enjoy this World Series, the off-season, and then get ready for Spring Training.
