Roche: Red Sox Need To Grow Up

BOSTON (CBS) - Really? This Red Sox soap opera that was the 2011 season just won't go away.

No wonder why Theo wants out.

I feel bad for, truly bad, for anyone who wasn't involved in this whole mess.

I understand that these are men playing a boy's game. I do. I get it. No one loves the game more than I do. I also don't know the 100-percent absolute truth when it comes to what went on in the clubhouse, dugout, etc, this past season and at this point, I don't care.

All I know is that the entire Red Sox organization should be embarrassed.

I realize how difficult it is to play in this city. There are all kinds of pressures and distractions. The expectations are high. It's intense. But, this stuff? Beyond ridiculous.

These guys should consider it an honor and a privilege to play major league baseball.

Role models? Forget that. How about normal human beings? These guys are living in fantasy land. Is it really that bad that you have to reduce yourselves to this type of childish behavior? And that's a slap in the face to kids!

Do we need to gather everyone and tell them to stop?

It's time for all of these big kids to grow up! You all need to be reminded of what you have. All the money you'll ever need. Nice homes. Meals at the park when you arrive and before you leave. Meal money on the road. Luxury hotels on the road. First class equipment. Clubhouse attendants to take of your every need. State-of-the-art exercise rooms. In other words, you are given more than what you need to perform your job and live your lives.

And yet you still can't behave?

I don't want to hear any excuses any more or denials for that matter. I've had enough.

All I want until Spring Training arrives is to hear about transactions. I want to hear from GM Ben Cherington about players that are coming in and ones that are leaving. Period.

I know that won't happen, so I guess it's just wishful thinking.

Time for everyone to meet this train wreck head on and move on to the 2012 Boston Red Sox season.

Now.
