Roche: Red Sox Met With Hamilton
BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Red Sox had a meeting with outfielder Josh Hamilton during the MLB Winter Meetings in Nashville, an MLB source tells WBZ-TV's Dan Roche.
Red Sox GM Ben Cherington and manager John Farrell met with the free agent slugger earlier this week, likely on Monday. The meeting was held off-site from the hotel where the Winter Meetings are being held, and took place before the team came to terms with free agent outfielder Shane Victorino.
So right now, it's not known if the Victorino signing had any impact on whether or not Hamilton is still a priority or a possibility for Boston.
Hamilton, who was second in Major League baseball with 43 home runs and 128 RBI in 2012, is believed to be seeking a 5-7 year contract with an "average annual value" of 20-25 million dollars per season. The Red Sox would likely only go three or four years with Hamilton.
According to recent rumors, Hamilton will likely land with either the Seattle Mariners or return to the Texas Rangers.
