Roche: If Sveum Impresses, Job Is His
BOSTON (CBS) - It appears that Dale Sveum has the first chance to be the next Red Sox manager.
Sveum will meet with the Sox ownership trio of John Henry, Tom Werner, and Larry Lucchino Wednesday. This is interview number two following a day spent with Lucchino and GM Ben Cherington at Fenway a few weeks ago.
Cherington has said there will be another finalist, but has yet to set something up. To me, that says if Sveum can impress Henry and Werner then the job can be his.
Heyman: Sveum Is The Favorite
What I remember most about Sveum is a conversation I had with him one day about Kevin Millar. I asked Sveum what made Millar such a good teammate? He basically told me that Millar had the ability to bring an entire team together with his chatting ability. He could rag on anyone...race, religion, language... but nothing mattered. Millar was great at loosening up everyone and Sveum couldn't stop talking about how important that was for a group of men that were together every day from February 15th through at least October 1st.

Sveum appreciated role players and what they could bring to a team.
Other than that, I don't know too much about him except that he used the word "obviously" way too much! But, he appears to be an impressive baseball man and well prepared and able to bring old school ball and today's stat world together.

Should be fun to watch this unfold. And, we will know a lot more about the next big hire for the Red Sox by the end of the day Wednesday.
