Neighboring Town Upset Over Foxboro Casino Talks
FOXBORO (CBS) - There are rumblings that a casino megaplex could be in store for Route 1 in Foxboro.
Steve Wynn, a Las Vegas casino mogul, is expected be in Robert Kraft's private box at the Patriots game this Sunday.
The two also have scheduled meetings with Foxboro officials.
The news is not sitting well with at least one neighboring community, where so far, officials there are being kept out of casino talks.
"This would affect surrounding towns, and so far, we don't have a seat at the table," says Walpole Planning Board member Rich Mazzocca. "And if they change the zoning, then we could see, literally, a 25-story hotel there."
WBZ-TV's Bill Shields reports
The land that would be reportedly be designated for the casino currently consists of the parking lots across the street from Gillette Stadium. The property sits right on the Foxboro-Walpole line and just about all of the abutting residents live in Walpole.
