Patriots Doctors Reportedly 'Optimistic' Gronkowski Could Play Versus Jets

BOSTON (CBS) – The Patriots take on the New York Jets on Sunday, but it isn't clear yet if tight end Rob Gronkowski will be on the field.

Gronkowski suffered a chest injury against the Seattle Seahawks that forced him to miss last week's game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Though Gronkowski returned to practice in a limited capacity the last two days, he is officially listed on the team's injury report as questionable.

On Saturday, Dianna Russini of ESPN reported that team doctors believe it's possible Gronkowski could be available against the Jets.

Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reported Saturday afternoon that Gronkowski is on the trip to New Jersey with the team.

Russini also reported that quarterback Tom Brady is expected to play, but the final decision will be made around game-time.

Not surprisingly, Brady posted on his Facebook page Saturday that he is making the trip as well.

Brady missed practices this week due to a knee injury, but returned on Friday and was listed on the injury report as questionable.

The Patriots and Jets play Sunday at 4:25 p.m. after the game was flexed out of its initially slated prime-time kickoff.
