Roads Become Treacherous When Snow Becomes Rain
CAMBRIDGE (CBS) -- It is our latest winter headache, too much snow is now too much water on our roads making travel trickier than ever.
There is water ponding on almost every road around, making driving more like navigating an obstacle course.
Roberta Frost, who is working in Cambridge, says, "It's really dangerous. Every time I go through one (puddle) I put my flashers on and slow down. And I have an SUV."
WBZ-TV's Kate Merrill reports.
The solution is as easy as the storm drains. Now if they could be found.
"I'm trying to find the drains, but they are all buried, everything is buried," said Mike Fantasia, who's a plow driver in Medford. "The plows, when they first did it, didn't push far enough back so all the drains are three feet under the snow."
So the search is on for each little buried drain making plow drivers more like map wielding treasure hunters. They have maps from the city to guide the way.
Now factor in freezing temperatures and the problems just went from bad to treacherous
"Once this starts freezing up I'm concerned about getting home," said Frost. "Sliding home all the way."
