Coffee Maker Causes Riverside MBTA Station Evacuation
NEWTON (CBS) – The Riverside MBTA stop on the Green Line was shut down Friday morning because of a suspicious device.
It turned out to be a coffee maker.
Police were called in around 7:30 a.m. after an electronic device was found plugged in to a power source near the fare gates.

The Transit Police Bomb Squad closed the station as a precaution.
The device was a coffee maker, but investigators say it was "absolutely suspicious."
"It was placed on a piece of cement, so it would be about chest high, and the power cord was running in through a vent, which ended up into a secured cleaner's room," Transit Police Lt. David Albanese told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.
"We couldn't determine that's all it was and it wasn't secreting something else, based upon where it was placed and when."
Albanese said they still don't know who put it there.
No one was hurt and the station re-opened around 9:30 a.m.
The response backed up traffic near the parking lot which is on Grove Street, just off Route 128.
A bus shuttle temporarily replaced service between the Riverside and Waban stations.
