CDC Study: Rise Of Autism May Be Leveling Off
BOSTON (CBS) -- A new analysis conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that the rise in cases of autism may be leveling off.
While the numbers of children diagnosed skyrocketed from 2000 to 2010, in large part due to greater detection, the numbers between 2010 and 2012 remained the same, about 1 in 68 American children.
It's still not clear if autism rates are really stabilizing, which would be good news, but the number of children with autism spectrum disorder remains high. And more than half of children, especially minorities, are being diagnosed after age three.
