RI Woman Arrested After 2-State Chase Ends In Raynham
RAYNHAM, Mass. (AP) — Massachusetts State Police say they have arrested a woman after a highway chase that began in Rhode Island and reached speeds over 100 mph.
State Police said 26-year-old Chelsea Smith of Providence was fleeing from officers in Central Falls on Interstate 95 and they assisted after the car crossed into Massachusetts. Police said Smith drove on Interstate 495 southbound, and crashed as she tried to exit on Route 24 South in Raynham shortly after 5 p.m. Friday.
Smith and a 29-year-old man in her car were taken into custody. The man was later released with no charges filed.
State police said Smith faces numerous traffic violation charges and is held as a fugitive from Rhode Island. She is expected to be arraigned Monday in Taunton District Court. It's not known if she has a lawyer.
