RI Soldier Deployed To Afghanistan Dies From Injuries
CUMBERLAND, R.I. (CBS) -- A soldier from Rhode Island died this week from injuries he received while serving in Afghanistan.
Spc. Dennis Poulin, 26, of Cumberland, R.I., died Thursday in Landstuhl, Germany where he had been evacuated to after his vehicle rolled over Monday in Afghanistan.
Spc. Poulin had been deployed to the region in July 2010 as a member of the Massachusetts National Guard. He was a gunner in the vehicle that rolled over.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Poulin family during this very difficult time," General Joseph Carter stated in a statement. "We hope that they find some consolation in the knowledge that Specialist Poulin gave his life while defending our nation. We also extend our condolences to Specialist Poulin's comrades in HHC, 1st Battalion, 181st Infantry Regiment who served with him overseas. The Massachusetts National Guard family mourns the tragic loss of this young patriot."
