RI Prison Inmate Grows Giant 260-Pound Pumpkin
CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) -- A Rhode Island inmate has grown a 260-pound pumpkin on the grounds of the state prison.
WPRI-TV reports inmate Elena Hall has been tending to the pumpkin that she nicknamed Miss Demeanor.
Correction officers planted the pumpkin seed in March and charged Hall with taking care of it. She already was entrusted to mow the lawn.
When the pumpkin got big enough, Hall put headphones on it and pumped in country music. A face with eyelashes has been painted on the pumpkin.
Hall says she wants to continue gardening when she's freed from prison. The Department of Corrections wants to expand its gardening program.
