RI Governor's Son Charged With 'Social Host' Violation
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The 18-year-old son of Gov. Lincoln Chafee has been charged with violating the state's "social host" law in connection with an alleged underage drinking party at the family's horse farm.
Rhode Island state police and the attorney general's office said Friday that Caleb Chafee was charged with one count of violating the law that prohibits people from allowing consumption of alcohol on their property by those under age 21.
A police report leaked to WPRO-AM said Caleb Chafee asked an 18-year-old woman to leave the Memorial Day party after she started vomiting. She was later treated for alcohol poisoning.
Chafee says in a statement his son will take responsibility for his actions and "we will continue to deal with this matter as a family."
A conviction carries a civil penalty of up to $500.
