Rhode Island House To Vote On Truck Tolls
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Eight months of debate over proposed highway truck tolls in Rhode Island could be coming to an end as the state House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on the legislation.
State representatives will assemble Wednesday afternoon to debate Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo's plan to charge big-rig trucks traveling Interstate 95 and other highways. The tolls would help pay for a 10-year plan to repair deteriorating bridges.
The Senate approved a similar bill last year but it was blocked in the House.
Democratic House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello is now rallying for on-the-fence lawmakers to support this year's revised bill. He says it has enough votes.
Democratic Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed says she also expects senators to pass the revised bill when they vote on it Thursday.
