Revs Return To Action On The Sports Hub This Saturday
BOSTON (CBS) - After a two week absence the New England Revolution will return to the 98.5 The Sports Hub airwaves this weekend.
On Saturday, June 28 the Revs play host to the Philadelphia Union at Gillette Stadium. Coverage on the 98.5 FM dial begins at 7:30pm.
This will be the third and final meeting of the two teams in the 2014 MLS regular season. Union got the best of New England on March 15 by the score of 1-0. However, more recently the Revs cruised to an easy 5-3 victory on May 17.
New England currently holds the second best point total in the MLS Eastern Conference (23), second behind only D.C. United (25).
98.5 THE SPORTS HUB WEEKEND SCHEDULE
While the US Men's National Team has been in Brazil playing in the 2014 World Cup, the stars left behind have been participating in the U.S. Open Cup, a single elimination tournament that is the oldest of its kind in America.
According to the US Soccer website, the tournament began in 1914 and is open to "all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the United States."
Bragging rights are surely something to be gained for the winning team, but the ultimate goal is to appear in the CONCACAF Champions League tourney. Since 2008, the winner of the U.S. Open Cup has gained an automatic berth into North America's premier soccer tournament.
The Revolution won their first U.S. Open Cup game 3-2 on June 18 over the Richmond Kickers (United Soccer League, or USL for short).
On Wednesday they'll square off in Providence against the Rochester Rhinos of the USL. With a win, the Revs will face their old foes -- the Philadelphia Union -- in the quarterfinals on July 8 in continuing Open Cup action.
