Revolution's Jermaine Jones, Lee Nguyen Called To U.S. Men's National Team

BOSTON (CBS) -- While the New England Revolution have two weeks to prepare for their Eastern Conference Championship against the New York Red Bulls, a pair of their players will be with the U.S. Men's National Team for a pair of friendly matches.

Revolution midfielders Jermaine Jones and Lee Nguyen were both called to the U.S. National team on Monday, and will join the team for their upcoming games against Colombia and the Republic of Ireland. Those two games will be played on Friday, November 14 in London and on Tuesday, November 18 in Dublin, respectively.

While Jones played a key role for the U.S. at the 2014 FIFA World Cup this summer, and last played for the National Team on October 14 in a friendly against Honduras, this will be Nguyen's first call-up since representing the U.S. at the 2007 Copa America in Venezuela.

Revolution owner and president Jonathan Kraft announced Nguyen's call up prior to Sunday's 3-1 win over the Chicago Crew on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Johnston & Flynn. It's unclear how much either player will play in the two matches.

Jones has made 47 career appearances for the U.S., scoring three goals and adding four assists since making his international debut USMNT on October 9, 2010. He became a household name this past summer, playing every minute of the National Team's run to the Round of 16 at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, setting up Clint Dempsey's early goal in a 2-1 win over Ghana to open the tournament. He then had one of the plays of the tournament, helping the U.S. earn a 2-2 draw against Portugal with a curling strike from distance.

Since joining the Revolution on August 24, Jones has tallied two goals and added five assists in 12 regular season and postseason games, with New Engalnd going 10-1-1 since Jones joined the club. The Revs are a perfect 7-0-0 when Jones tallies a goal or an assist.

Nguyen is an MLS MVP candidate this season after scoring 18 regular-season goals for the Revolution in 2014. He has added two more goals in New England's Eastern Conference Semifinals win over the Columbus Crew, making him the first Revolution player to score 20 or more goals in a year since Taylor Twellman scored 23 goals in 2007.

The Revolution are 16-1-2 when Nguyen records a goal or an assist this season.
