Revolution Trade Charlie Davies To Philadelphia Union
BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Revolution made a major trade on Thursday morning, sending forward Charlie Davies to the Philadelphia Union.
Davies played in 64 regular season matches for the Revs in his four seasons in New England, making 41 starts while registering 14 goals and eight assists. He started five games in New England's run to the 2014 MLS Cup, netting five goals with an assist.
The New England native had an incredible path to his MLS career. He missed 18 months of action following a serious car crash in October 2009, and just last week revealed that he is in remission after receiving treatment for cancer earlier this year.
"I'm blown away by the support I've received from Revolution fans and from my teammates. It's been an honor to be part of such a wonderful and welcoming locker room and I leave with incredible friendships. I also am grateful to the Krafts for the opportunity and for all their support," said Charlie Davies. "I'm excited for the next chapter in my career and look forward to joining the Union."
Davies, who is originally from Manchester, New Hampshire and played three seasons at Boston College, has been one of the Revs' leaders on and off the field since joining the club in 2013.
"When this was brought to us, we talked directly with Charlie. It was important to do what was right for Charlie and his family. If it wasn't right for them, we wouldn't have considered it," said Michael Burns, General Manager for the New England Revolution. "It's never easy parting with a player like Charlie, but we are grateful for his contributions to the club and we wish him and his family all the best and consider them a part of the Revolution family."
In exchange for Davies and their natural third-round pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft, the Revolution acquire general allocation money, targeted allocation money, and the Union's natural first-round pick in 2018.
