Revolution Set To Face Columbus Crew In MLS Eastern Semis

BOSTON (CBS) -- After finishing the regular season with an impressive 55 points and 17 wins, the New England Revolution now turn their attention to the postseason.

The fun starts next Saturday when the two-seeded Revs, who finished the season on a 9-1-1 run in their final 11 games, face off against the Columbus Crew in a two-game, aggregate goal series in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

The Crew will host the first game, with kickoff set for 4 p.m. on November 1. The Revolution will host the second leg at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, November 9, which is set to kick off at 5 p.m.. The Revolution and Crew played three times this season, with Columbus winning the season series 2-1-0. Columbus earned a 2-1 win at Gillette Stadium on July 26 and a 1-0 win at Crew Stadium on September 20. New England won the third and final meeting, a 2-1 win in Gillette Stadium on October 4. MLS MVP candidate Lee Nguyen (whose 18 goals rank fourth in MLS) and newcomer Jermaine Jones (two goals and four assists in 10 games played) both scored in the October 4 win for New England.

This will be the third time these two teams will meet in the MLS Cup Playoffs, both in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The teams played a three-game, first-to-five-points series in 2002 with the Revolution going 1-0-2 in the three matches to advance. In 2004, the Revolution won a two-game, aggregate-goal series 1-0-1 to advance to the Eastern Conference Championship.
