Revolution Midfielder Kelyn Rowe Named MLS Player Of The Week
BOSTON (CBS) - New England Revolution midfielder Kelyn Rowe was voted Major League Soccer's player of the week following his two-goal performance in the Revolution's 5-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.
Sunday was Rowe's second two-goal game of the MLS season, and both of his tallies came from long distance. His first goal came in the 26th minute when Rowe ripped a 24-yard shot off a pass by Chad Barrett, which beat Union keeper Zac MacMath to give the Revs a 1-0 lead. Rowe added his second goal from 30 yards out in the 65th minute, sending a square pass from Dimitry Imbongo into the upper right corner past a diving MacMath. That goal put the Revs up 3-1 on the way to their 5-1 win.
Rowe's second goal is one of the five nominees for MLS Goal of the Week. Fans can vote for Rowe's goal online at mlssoccer.com through 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, or via text message by texting "G5" to 22442.
Rowe's player of the week nod is the first of his career, and the Revolution's second of the 2013 season. Diego Fagundez earned player of the week honors in Week 14 for a two-goal, one-assist effort in a 5-0 win over LA.
The 21-year-old Rowe leads New England with six assists and is tied for second on the team with five goals.
