Revolution Ink Leominster's Diego Fagundez To Multi-Year Extension
BOSTON (CBS) - The New England Revolution's first homegrown player will be wearing a Revs jersey for the foreseeable future.
The Revolution signed 18-year-old forward Diego Fagundez to a multiple-year contract extension on Wednesday.
"We're pleased that Diego has made the commitment to remain in New England," Revolution General Manager Michael Burns said of Fagundez, who grew up in Leominster after moving from Uruguay. "While he's only 18, we believe he has a very bright future with our club and in Major League Soccer."
At just 15 years and 273 days, Fagundez became the third-youngest player to sign an MLS contract when he inked a Homegrown deal with the Revolution in November of 2010. After a stellar two-year career with the Revs' Under-16 team, he took part in the Revolution Academy and was destined for the MLS.
Fagundez made his MLS debut on Aug. 6, 2011, against Chivas USA at Gillette Stadium, scoring his first career goal in that game. With the tally, Fagundez became the second-youngest player to score a goal in MLS history at 16 years and 173 days.
For his career Fagundez has made 27 appearances, including 11 starts, scoring four goals and three assists.
