Second Suspect In Revere Officer Assault Turns Himself In

REVERE (CBS) -- The second suspect in an assault on a Revere police officer that happened two weeks ago has turned himself in.

Michael Gouthro, who was wanted by Revere Police and several other law enforcement agencies, is in police custody after turning himself in at the Revere Police Station Monday morning.

Massachusetts State Police say Gouthro assaulted a Revere officer with a hypodermic needle and led police on a chase on February 18 that resulted in an officer crashing into a pole in Chelsea. That officer was seriously injured, but is expected to make a full recovery.

Police announced that day that they were searching for Gouthro and Jacqueline Murphy, 32, of Revere, who they believed to be in a vehicle with Gouthro, in connection with the incident. At the time, police said Gouthro had four outstanding warrants for his arrest, and Murphy had one.

A week later, the pair were spotted in a stolen car in Saugus, later crashing on the Lynn Fells Parkway after being pursued by police. A man police believed to be Gouthro was seen running from the accident. Murphy was taken into custody at the scene of the crash, and police searched the area for Gouthro to no avail.

Gouthro is expected to be arraigned in Chelsea District Court later Monday.
