Revere Mayor Distributes Tornado Relief Fund Checks To Homeowners
REVERE (CBS) - Money from the Revere Tornado Relief Fund is being distributed this week.
Revere Mayor Dan Rizzo personally delivered checks to four families on Monday. The fund collected about a quarter of a million dollars that will go to 150 victims of the July tornado.
"I like it already and I haven't even opened it," said Mary Christopher.
The mayor said around 1,000 people made individual contributions to the fund. The tornado damage was not enough to qualify the area for federal disaster assistance. The local fund started by the mayor is to help residents cover costs not paid for by insurance and insurance deductibles.
"Our deductibles that is fantastic," said Peggy Cardone as she opened the envelope with her and her daughter's check.
A tree fell on her roof and on her daughter's car. Two weeks ago they had the windows replaced on their house and when the spring arrives they will fix the siding.
"It is awesome," said Cardone. "All the people who helped us out...that it's there (the money)...giving to us, that's also very special."
Eighty-thousand dollars from the fund has been distributed. Approved residents can collect their money on Tuesday.
