Driver Arrested After 80-Year-Old Woman Hit By Car In Revere
REVERE (CBS) - A driver is facing charges after State Police say he hit an 80-year-old woman in Revere early Wednesday morning.
The woman was hit by a car as she walked in a crosswalk on Revere Beach Boulevard at Chester Avenue around 6 a.m.
She was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries. She spoke with WBZ-TV as she left the hospital.
"I was crossing in the crosswalk and somebody drove up to the street and didn't stop, didn't look and went right into me," said the woman, who did not want to be identified. "They hit my legs and I fell backwards onto the ground and hit my head."
The driver, 61-year-old Jaaziel Goncalves of Revere, was arrested and charged with unlicensed operation and a crosswalk violation.
A friend of his, Danny Souza, later told reporters Goncalves stopped after he hit the woman and that it was an accident because he didn't see her.
"He works with me he does some work sometimes he's very nice nice person," Souza said. "He stopped he saw the car coming in he turned left and he didn't see her."
Goncalves pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Chelsea District Court. He was released and is due back in court October 23.
"It was very scary and the man that was driving did get out of the car and just stood there," the injured woman said.
The 80-year-old woman said she has some deep cuts and it will take her a while to recover.
"Nothing like this has ever happened to me," she said.
