Man arrested in shooting near Revere Beach that was caught on video
CHELSEA - Police have arrested 19-year-old Dashawn Teleau in the shooting of a young woman near Revere Beach over Memorial Day weekend.
The Malden man is charged with assault and battery with a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of ammunition without an FID card and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, police said.
I-Team sources say this is not the first time Teleau has been arrested on gun charges. Last April, the Transit Police arrested Teleau and two of his friends after finding a handgun in their car during a traffic stop at Wellington Station in Medford.
Teleau faced a judge via Zoom in Chelsea Court Thursday. In court prosecutors said it all began with two groups fighting. Cell phone video shows what started as a street fight, with one group of young men dressed alike, wearing grey shorts and white tank tops.
Moments later, during the brawl, police say the 19-year-old took out a gun and started shooting. The young woman who was in the crowd, was hit by one of the bullets in the back. She ran To Revere Beach where she was treated by EMS.
Prosecutors said the victim was sitting with friends at the beach, when a group of guys began arguing. She tried to stop the dispute and noticed the other group of young men had bags with them and realized there were guns in the bags. She was shot as she was running away from the shooting.
This was the second arrest in what was a violent day at the beach that began with out-of-control teens taking over the bandstand.
Hours later, in an unrelated shooting, a 51-year-old woman was struck by bullets in the legs and a teenager was grazed. On Tuesday, police arrested a juvenile on firearm charges connected to the double shooting. That investigation is ongoing.
Prosecutors say detectives from two police departments identified Teleau from the video. They also say, his mother told police her son uses her car. License plate readers linked it to the Revere Beach area at the time of the shooting.
A judge held Teleau for a dangerous hearing. He is due back in court next week.
