Retailers Dreaming Of A Greener Christmas
BOSTON (CBS) -- After two years of peddling the basics, area retailers are pushing harder and earlier this season to try to get you through their front door or onto their websites.
Early targeted promotions, increased use of social media, free shipping and more sales events are all being used this year in preparation for Black Friday and beyond.
Retail analyst Ken Perkins of "Retail Metrics" in Swampscott says he expects a barbell season, with low-end and high-end retailers doing the best.
Perkins says Tiffany had very strong third quarter earnings with Coach, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Sacks, and Bloomingdales all expected to do well.
On the low end, the dollar stores, Big Lots and Wal-Mart should all fare the best. Perkins predicts retail sales overall should increase about two to four percent this holiday season.
