Reputed MA Mob Leader In Court On New Charges
BOSTON (AP) -- A reputed leader in the New England mob is set to face a judge on an indictment accusing him of running a criminal network involved in extortion, drug trafficking, gambling, loan sharking and other crimes.
Mark Rossetti, a reputed capo in the mob, has been jailed on heroin trafficking charges since May. Last month, authorities announced that Rossetti and 30 alleged associates had been charged in a yearlong investigation.
Prosecutors said the arrests put a "major dent" in organized crime in Massachusetts.
Rossetti, of East Boston, will be arraigned Monday in Suffolk Superior Court on charges of heroin trafficking, attempted extortion, breaking and entering, loan sharking and conspiracy.
His lawyer has said he denies the charges.
