Reports: Vince Wilfork Won't Sign With Texans, Colts
BOSTON (CBS) -- Take two potential suitors for free agent Vince Wilfork's services off the board.
Wilfork will not sign with the Houston Texans, according to John Lopez of Sports Radio 610 in Houston. And according to ESPN's Mike Wells, Wilfork is not a player whom the Colts are looking at.
"Wilfork and his wife visited Texans coaches and officials Sunday and Monday, with the Texans wooing him, but a deal could not be reached," Lopez reported.
Lopez's report said that with no agreement in Houston, Wilfork's options were limited to Indianapolis, Baltimore and New England. With Indy apparently out of the picture, the odds of Wilfork returning to New England seemingly increased.
UPDATE: Later on Monday, Wilfork announced that he will sign with the Texans. Lopez tweeted that he was wrong.
Wilfork, 33, was drafted by the Patriots with the 21st overall pick in the 2004 NFL Draft. He played 179 games -- regular season and postseason combined for the Patriots between 2004 and 2014, only missing significant playing time in 2013.
During that time, Wilfork amassed 597 tackles and 19 sacks while forcing four fumbles and recovering 13 fumbles. He also intercepted three passes, the most recent of which came late in the fourth quarter against the Raiders to seal a win in Week 3 this past season.
Wilfork was able to hit all of his incentives last year, after which the Patriots elected to not pick up the option for 2015, thereby saving roughly $8 million in salary cap space and also making Wilfork a free agent.
"I'm in a good place," Wilfork wrote at the time. "I have a great relationship with the Patriots organization. Please know how blessed my family and I have been to be able to play 11 years in New England for an amazing organization. The love you guys as fans have shown me have been my inspiration year in and year out."
The defensive lineman visited Houston on Sunday and Monday, where former Patriots coaches Bill O'Brien and Romeo Crennel, along with former Wilfork teammate Mike Vrabel, are all on the coaching staff.
According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Omar Kelly, Wilfork entered the weekend with two-year, $10 million offers from three teams.
