Reports: Pacers Fire Coach Jim O'Brien
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The Indiana Pacers have reportedly fired coach Jim O'Brien after failing to make the playoffs in three losing seasons.
Several media outlets reported the firing Sunday. The Pacers called a 4 p.m. news conference with team president Larry Bird, and a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity that Bird will discuss the coaching situation.
The person requested anonymity because no official announcement has been made.
The Pacers went 121-169 under O'Brien and are 17-27 this season, having lost seven of their past eight games after a promising start. O'Brien was ejected in his final game, a 110-89 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Saturday.
O'Brien coached the Celtics from 2000-2004.
