Report: Celtics Guarantee Phil Pressey's Contract

BOSTON (CBS) -- After a strong showing in the Orlando Summer League, Phil Pressey has earned his spot on the 2014-15 Boston Celtics.

The team guaranteed the guard's contract for next season late Tuesday night, according to The Boston Globe's Gary Washburn.

The 23-year-old Pressey went undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft, but signed on with the Celtics to play in the Orlando Summer League. With Rajon Rondo recovering at the beginning of last season, the Celtics signed Pressey in late July and he went on to average 2.8 points and 3.2 assists in 75 games, including 11 starts, for Boston.

While Pressey has struggled with his shot, hitting just 31 percent of his shots from the field in 2013, he showed off his passing ability throughout the season, and shined in the season's final month. He averaged 7.3 assists per game in April, dishing out double-digit assists in four of his eight games, including a pair of double-doubles.

Pressey played on the Celtics' Orlando Summer League team again in 2014, averaging 10.6 points, 3.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game in Boston's five games.

He'll have to battle for minutes in the upcoming season behind Rajon Rondo, Avery Bradley and Marcus Smart, but Pressey can finally exhale a bit with a guaranteed contract.
