Report: Welker In Serious Talks With Broncos
BOSTON (CBS) - Wes Welker may be making his decision soon, and it doesn't sound like that decision will be to return to the New England Patriots.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Welker and the Denver Broncos are in serious talks and trying to hammer out a contract. A decision from Welker is expected to come on Wednesday.
Update 4:13 p.m: No deal with the Broncos is official, and it looks like Welker will give the Patriots a chance to match what the Broncos are offering him according to CSNNE's Mike Giardi.
Things have reportedly not been pleasant for the Patriots and Welker during the first 24 hours of NFL Free Agency. There was no offer from New England when free agency opened at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, and when an offer was made on Wednesday it was "substantially lower than expected" according to the NFL Network's Bert Breer.
According to Breer, that offer had Welker seriously considering leaving New England, and now it looks like that could be a reality.
Welker has been a constant producer for the Patriots, with 672 receptions for nearly 7,500 yards in his six seasons in New England.
Imagine what he would do with Peyton Manning in Denver.
