Tom Brady 'Very Upset' About Logan Mankins Trade
BOSTON (CBS) -- Since 2005, Logan Mankins has been there to protect Tom Brady. That's obviously going to change now that Mankins has been traded to Tampa Bay, and the Patriots' quarterback is apparently not happy about it.
"Tom Brady had a very emotional reaction to what happened yesterday," Jason Cole said on Bleacher Report's Insider Buzz. "He was not happy with this move. There's usually a very special bond that you have between offensive linemen and quarterbacks.
""Brady initially, he was very upset about this trade," Cole added. "We'll see how he reacts going forward. He usually finds his calm after a day or two."
Cole joined Felger & Massarotti on 98.5 The Sports Hub on Wednesday, and he said that Brady was "a little bit angry, a little disappointed, a little sad" about the trade.
"That's the kind of emotional reaction you're getting [from Brady]," Cole said.
Cole also reported that the Patriots requested Mankins to take a pay cut as far back as last February. Cole said on Felger and Mazz that the Patriots wanted Mankins to take a pay cut that would drop his $6.25 million salary below $4 million.
"There was further discussion all along. Mankins never wanted to take a pay cut, refused to take it all along," Cole said on Bleacher Report.
The Patriots traded Mankins, a nine-year veteran, to Tampa Bay on Tuesday in exchange for tight end Tim Wright and a fourth-round draft pick.
