Report: Tim Thomas Not Expected To Play Vs. Bruins On Thursday Night

BOSTON (CBS) -- It looks like Tim Thomas' return to Boston ice will have to be put on hold.

The Florida Panthers' netminder is not expected to play Thursday night when the team visits the Bruins, according to George Richards of the Miami Herald.

There was hope on Tuesday that Thomas may be ready by Thursday, as he worked out with the team and was scheduled to travel on the road trip. Alas, he may need a few more days to recover from his lower-body injury.

Thomas hasn't played since Oct. 23, when he left a game due to injury for the second time of the season.

The first time he suffered an injury, he returned just in time to face his former team. The Bruins won that game in Florida, despite Thomas stopping 37 of 40 shots.

Thomas is currently in the process of working himself back into game shape after choosing to sit out the entirety of last season, an endeavor that's become increasingly difficult due to the nagging injury.

For those thinking of a tribute on the video board to Thomas' years and Stanley Cup win in Boston: he will be with the Panthers, though the team would have to activate him from injured reserve in order for Thomas to be dressed and on the bench.

The Panthers' next trip to Boston is scheduled for Jan. 28.
