Report: Robinson Cano, Mariners Agree On 10-Year, $240 Million Contract
BOSTON (CBS) --Robinson Cano is the newest, richest member of the Seattle Mariners.
The Mariners and Cano agreed to a 10-year, $240 million contract on Friday morning, according to Enrique Rojas of ESPN. The deal is pending a physical, which will take place Monday.
Overnight, news broke that talks between the Seattle Mariners and Robinson Cano ended abruptly, when the free agent's demands far surpassed the megadeal offered by the team.
Yet on Friday morning, just as the news world was digesting that news, it changed quickly. CBS Sports' Jon Heyman tweeted that the Mariners and Cano were close on a deal, and several reporters quickly confirmed. Minutes later, Rojas tweeted that an agreement was reached.
Cano, 30, leaves the New York Yankees, who signed free agents Brian McCann and Jacoby Ellsbury this offseason. Cano played nine seasons in New York, where he batted .309 with an .860 OPS while being named to five All-Star teams.
