Frustrated Pedroia Wearing Cast On Thumb, Heading To Disabled List
BOSTON (CBS) - Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is heading to the disabled list.
Pedroia will be out for the next couple of weeks with an injury to his right thumb, though he says it's completely different from the injury he suffered earlier this season.
"This is just a freak thing. I dove back for a ball and just kind of landed wrong," he said Friday in the Red Sox' clubhouse. "Just kind of a freak accident."

The Red Sox announced that Pedroia hyperextended his thumb, causing an injury to the volar plate, while stressing that his previous thumb injury is "completely healed."
Pedroia was sporting a cast on his thumb, which he said he'll need for the next couple of weeks. He won't, however, need surgery.
"It's just frustrating because I healed up from the other injury, and I just started to feel better and swing the bat better, and I dive one time and now this," he said. "So it's just frustrating."
Pedroia sat out Wednesday's series finale against the Oakland A's after injuring his thumb the night before. Pedroia said the injury was not in the original spot where he suffered a partially torn adductor muscle.
He underwent tests in Boston on Thursday, which revealed the new ailment.
The team is expected to place Pedroia on the disabled list prior to their four-game series with the Yankees in Boston beginning Friday.

Pedroia is hitting .266 with six home runs and 33 RBIs in 74 games this season.
