Red Sox Sign Jacoby Ellsbury For $8.05M, Avoiding Arbitration
BOSTON (CBS) - The Red Sox signed outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury to a one-year deal for $8.05 million on Tuesday, avoiding arbitration.
The deal was announced by Red Sox GM Ben Cherington.
The 28-year-old Ellsbury is coming off a career season. He was named American League Comeback Player of the Year and finished second in AL MVP voting after batting .321 while setting career-highs with 46 doubles, 32 home runs, 119 runs, 105 RBI and 52 walks in 158 games. Ellsbury also led the Majors with both 364 total bases and 83 extra-base hits.
Ellsbury made his first All-Star squad and and won his first Gold Glove for his stellar play in center field.
