Report: Red Sox Recall Scott Podsednik
BOSTON (CBS) -- With Cody Ross headed toward the disabled list, where he'll join Jacoby Ellsbury, Carl Crawford, Darnell McDonald, Jason Repko and Ryan Kalish, and with Ryan Sweeney perhaps out for a week with concussion-like symptoms, the Red Sox need some outfield help.
And according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, it will be coming in the form of Scott Podsednik.
The 36-year-old outfielder is hitting .323 in nine games with Pawtucket this season, after he was traded from the Phillies' organization in early May. Podsednik spent last season in the minors after hitting .297 in 2010 in 134 games split between the Dodgers and Royals.
Podsednik was a member of the 2005 World Series-winning White Sox. He stole a league-leading 70 bases in 2004 and averaged 53 per season from '03-'06.
Ross is expected to be out for months due to a broken bone in his foot, while Sweeney failed a concussion test and could be placed on the seven-day DL that was created to help manage head injuries in MLB.
