Report: Red Sox Pursuing Francisco Cordero
BOSTON (CBS) - The Red Sox are said to have had "increased dialogue" with free agent closer Francisco Cordero this week, according to ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick.
The Red Sox have already traded for relief pitcher Mark Melancon, but still need a significant amount of help at the back end of the bullpen. Cordero would help fill the void left by Jonathan Papelbon's departure.
The 36-year-old Cordero finished with 37 saves and a 2.45 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP in 68 games last season in Cincinnati.
The Reds are said to be interested in bringing Cordero back.
