Report: Red Sox Interested In Ryan Dempster
BOSTON (CBS) -- With several roster holes still open heading into December, the Red Sox are reportedly targeting a veteran pitcher.
According to Ken Rosenthal, the Red Sox are among three teams interested in Ryan Dempster. Rosenthal reported that Dempster, who will turn 36 in May, is seeking a three-year deal.
Dempster pitched 173 innings last year between the Cubs and Rangers. He had a 2.25 ERA for the Cubs, but that mark ballooned to 5.09 with the Rangers in the AL. His overall 2012 ERA of 3.38 was his lowest mark for a full season since 2008, when he went 17-6 with a 2.96 ERA for Chicago.
Dempster was last seen making a start for the Rangers on the final day of the regular season, when Texas needed a win to fend off the A's for the AL West crown. Dempster lasted just three innings, surrendering five earned runs on six hits.
Despite the high ERA, Dempster did manage to go 7-3 with the Rangers, and his season record was 12-8.
