Report: Red Sox Interested In Andruw Jones

BOSTON (CBS) - The Red Sox and several other teams are thought to be interested in free agent outfielder Andruw Jones, according to a report from the New York Daily News.

Writer Mark Feinsand said that Jones was once assumed to be re-signing with the Yankees, but a source said that the team and agent Scott Boras have not made much progress in contract talks.

The Yankees are set in outfield with Brett Gardner, Curtis Granderson and Nick Swisher, so Jones would be a bat off the bench if he signs.

The Red Sox, who are in the market for an outfielder that hits well against left-handed pitching, are one of the teams interested in Jones, according to the report. He could platoon with Josh Reddick or Ryan Kalish in right field.

Last season, Jones hit .247 with 13 home runs, 33 RBIs, but did his best work in the second half (.291 average, .416 on-base percentage, .612 slugging percentage with nine homers and 21 RBI). For the year against lefties, Jones hit .286 with 8 homers and 25 RBI.

The 34-year-old played most of his career with the Braves, but has also suited up for Dodgers, Rangers, White Sox and Yankees. He's eighth on the active list with 420 career home runs.
