Report: Red Sox Agree With Reliever Koji Uehara On One-Year Deal
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Red Sox are looking to build their bullpen, and they added a notable piece on Thursday.
The Sox agreed on a one-year deal with reliever Koji Uehara, according to Gerry Fraley of The Dallas Morning News.
Uehara, who will turn 38 two days after opening day in 2013, pitched 36 innings in 37 appearances for the Rangers last season. He posted a 1.75 ERA and 0.639 WHIP. In his four years with Baltimore and Texas, he owns a 2.89 ERA and 0.921 WHIP.
Uehara was particularly effective against righties last season, allowing just a .125 batting average against and .155 on-base percentage vs. RHB.
He pitched one perfect inning in the Rangers' wild-card play-in game, striking out all three batters he faced (Chris Davis, Adam Jones, Matt Wieters).
