Report: Red Sox Activate Ellsbury, Designate Justin Germano
BOSTON (CBS) - Jacoby Ellsbury will be back in the Red Sox lineup Friday night against the Rays, as the team has activated the center fielder from the disabled list.
To make room for Ellsbury, the Sox have designated right-handed pitcher Justin Germano for assignment, according to a Tweet by The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo.

Ellsbury returns after missing the last three months with a shoulder injury suffered in Boston's home opener against the Rays back in April.
In eight rehab games in the past weeks, Ellsbury went 5-for-27 with two doubles and a home run for the Gulf Coast League Red Sox, Double-A Portland Sea Dogs and Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox.

After finishing second in MVP voting last season with a .321 average, 32 homers, 105 RBIs and a .928 OPS, Ellsbury got off to a bit of a slow start in his seven games played this season. He's 5-for-26 on the season, good for a .192 average.
Germano appeared in one game for the Red Sox this season, pitching 5.2 innings in Boston's 6-1 loss to the Yankees last week. In Pawtucket, Germano was 9-4 with a 2.40 ERA in 17 games (16 starts) while striking out 72 over 105 innings.
