Report: Recovering Tim Thomas To Travel With Panthers To Boston
BOSTON (CBS) -- It was slated to be a week full of reunions for the Bruins, with Tyler Seguin visiting on Tuesday, Tim Thomas coming on Thursday and old pal Phil Kessel returning to Boston on Saturday.
Those plans remain in question due to Thomas suffering an injury, but there is some positive news for fans hoping to welcome back the goaltender who brought the Stanley Cup to Boston in 2011.
The Miami Herald reports that Thomas worked out over the weekend and will travel with the team to Boston. Though the goaltender's status for Thursday remains unknown, taking the trip is a positive indicator that he's nearing a return. Thomas also practiced with the team on Tuesday morning, according to Erin Brown of Fox Sports Florida.
Thomas, 39, has played in just six games this season, twice leaving early due to injury. He last played on Oct. 22, his third game back after missing time with a groin injury. The Panthers placed him on injured reserve on Oct. 23, which required him to miss at least seven days. He won't play Tuesday night, but if healthy, he will be eligible to play in Boston on Thursday.
Thomas played against his former team on Oct. 17, which coincidentally was his first game back from injury. He made 37 saves, but he allowed three goals in a game the Bruins won 3-2.
Florida is currently 3-8-3 on the season, one spot ahead of Buffalo at the bottom of the Atlantic Division standings.
