Randy Moss Agrees To One-Year Deal With 49ers
BOSTON (CBS) -- Randy Moss has been adamant that he is more than capable of returning to the NFL, and the 35-year-old is going to get his chance to prove it.
Moss and the San Francisco 49ers agreed Monday night to terms on a one-year deal, the team announced, though financial terms were not disclosed. The news was first reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter.
"I accept the challenge to get back into this league and still play at a high level," Moss said in a conference call Monday night. "Whatever my role's going to be, I just want to go out there and be productive."
Earlier in the day, Moss worked out for the 49ers, with head coach and former NFL quarterback Jim Harbaugh serving as his quarterback.
Moss also worked out for the Saints last week.
In 13 NFL seasons, Moss has made 954 catches for 14,858 yards and 153 touchdowns, including a record 23 in 2007 with the Patriots. His last season in football, however, was less than impressive, with Moss getting traded from the Patriots to the Vikings and again from Minnesota to Tennessee, catching just 28 passes for 393 yards and five touchdowns. Moss didn't play in the 2011 season, but he announced in February that he planned to play again in 2012.
The Patriots will host the 49ers this season, and the Niners will also visit the Vikings in Minnesota.
"It was very intriguing for me to reach out to the 49ers and come to give them everything I had today," Moss said of his workout. "It's obvious they like what they saw. I don't want to let them down. I just want to come and get back to what I do, and that's getting out there playing football and stretching the field."
The 49ers are coming off a 13-3 season that ended with an NFC Championship Game loss to the eventual Super Bowl-champion Giants. Their leading receivers were wideout Michael Crabtree (72 catches, 874 yards, 4 TDs) and tight end Vernon Davis (67 catches, 792 yards, 6 TDs), but there was a drastic dropoff before the next receiver, as the trio of Kyle Williams, Ted Ginn and Josh Morgan averaged 227 yards apiece.
